Warm, Easy, and Green
Pellet fuel is an easy to use fuel that is made from recycled sawdust and wood
by-products. These materials are then formed into ¼” diameter cylinders of highly
compressed wood. This energy packed fuel comes in 40 pound, waterproof bags
which make it easy to handle and store. The pellet stove offers convenience while
still burning a wood product, a renewable source of heat. Most homes will use
between 2 and 4 tons of wood pellets during a heating season.
Advantages of Heating with Pellet or other Renewable Fuels
Not All Pellets are Created Equal
All pellets are not the same. Pellets are made with different combinations and types of wood. There are 100’s of different companies
In the United States that manufacture pellets and each one has a different formula – trying to make the best pellet. The Pellets Fuels Institute(PFI), the industry’s trade association, regulates the size and content of pellets. The most important of these tests is the ash content analysis. Ash content determines whether a pellet is considered premium (less than 1% ash content) or standard (less than
3% ash content). If your stove manufacturer specifies a certain grade of pellet fuel, be sure to use it. Remember, before changing
to a different brand of pellets, try a few bags and make sure they are a good fuel choice before investing in more.
WE SELL ONLY PREMIUM PELLETS.
Burning Other Fuels
All of our current Quadra-fire stoves can burn a 50/50 combination of pellets and shelled corn. The corn must be clean and dry with a moisture content of less than 15%. Quadra-fire’s Mt. Vernon stove is called a biomass fuel. It will burn 100% corn, wheat, pellets, sunflower seeds, and more. These renewable fuel sources offer the homeowner an alternative to petroleum products.
